Alistair Tune



Alistair has undertaken Dry Stone Wall repair works and new commissions throughout Victoria and NSW. Works have included a feature wall at the Melbourne Science Works Museum, as well as a small sample wall for the Melbourne Museum. He does ongoing repairs to the historic walls of the western district. Other works include feature walls in private gardens as well as sculptural pieces, and public works including gateways, sculptures and feature walls. Alistair was a Team Member of the 2013 Chelsea Flower Show “Best in Show” garden.’

Alistair Tune’s Bio

  • First began walling in 1996 under the instruction of local waller Bill Harlock.
  • Worked on a part time basis with Bill undertaking wall repairs around the western district.
  • In 2000 travelled to Scotland and spent 6 months working with Mastercraftsman Niel Rippingale
  • 2001 started working full time as a drystone waller, undertaking repair works and new commissions throughout Victoria and NSW.
  • Works have included a feature wall at the Scienceworks Museum, Melbourne as well as a small sample wall for the Melbourne Museum.
  • As well as ongoing repairs to the historic walls of the western district, works also include feature walls in private gardens as well as sculptural pieces, and public works including gateways, sculptures and feature walls

Workshop Aims:

Provide participants with the basic knowledge to construct a free standing drystone wall. Topics covered include, safety, stone selection, set up and construction principles, wall types, uses and styles. Participants should leave with the know how to undertake their own basic project.
